• If you have any lingering doubts that the way music gets from artist to audience has forever changed, consider this. The new Styx album, Regeneration, Volume 1 (which is mostly new versions of old Styx standards) is currently available two ways: streaming on Facebook, and on a disc that can only be purchased at a Styx concert (they'll be touring the U.S. for a month, beginning October 14.) Kinda adds some extra significance to the title of the one new song on the new album -- "Difference in the World".
• One of rock's first supergroups, Bad Company may be breaking up. Again. (They've formed, split, and re-formed four times since 1973.) For the past couple of years, the band's surviving original members -- Paul Rodgers (vocals) Simon Kirke (drums) and Mick Ralphs (guitar) -- have been performing together in various corners of the world. Rodgers tells Ft. Smith, Arkansas's Times Record that after the current tour of North America and Japan, he's going to devote his time to a new solo album and tour. Does this mean that Mr. Rodgers is leaving the Bad Company neighborhood yet again? "I'm just seeing how it goes."
• Carl, the Palmer of Emerson Lake & Palmer (he's on the far left in the 1971 ELP photo) is preparing to embark on a solo tour of North and South America (10/12 - 11/14) called, "Carl Palmer & His Band Celebrates The Music Of Emerson, Lake & Palmer." It'll be just exactly like an ELP concert, if you don't count the fact that there won't be any vocals or keyboards. "I didn't want to have a singer trying to sound like Greg Lake, explains the drummer on his website. "ELP did so much instrumental music, this format made sense to me. Hearing the keyboard parts done on guitar is certainly different, but just as satisfying."
